Midweek Thoughts for 1.02 Round 2

Here is something that has really been bothering me this week...

Stan Wedeck's flash foward...I'm thinking that the future the characters see is based on the reality that exists as a result of them having the flash.  Again, I'm not going to go to far with this because we have very limited information (we being the non-spoiler crowd).

So here is the mystery I would like to see solved...

Mark's flash includes him knowing about the flash forward.  He is working on trying to find the cause.  Now in Stan's flash he is sitting on the toilet.  This is the point that confuses me.  Being that he now knows the exact time and date of the flash, and he is sitting on the toilet reading the sports page?  Why would not be working on the case?  Shouldn't he be standing in the control center were they have a billion instruments set up around the world to determine what cause the flash. I would think that they would have camera feeds from around the world, geiger counters, satellite feeds, etc. Either he as serious diarrhea, or we are going to find out that he is sitting with a gun waiting for someone to come find him as a set up.  He may be like Mark as a gun ready for the guys coming for him.  My only thought was it will change, or he set himself up so that he would see that in the flash in order to set someone else up.  I could be that he follows through on it just so they can confirm the time/date of when they flash to.  One last thought... did he set himself up in order to try to hide something from himself?

PS....Does he now have his life savings on Rays beating the Red Sox's?

Midweek Thoughts for 1.02

First off here is another regular recap/summery by g-man that I recommend over at spoilertv.blogspot.com.

Again... I have read not spoilers so please don't spoil me. This is a no spoiler website.

Things I want answered this week.

  • Who is the Detroit Tigers baseball fan walking around during the flash forward (OK, at least answered by the end of season 2), and will he be angry when the/my Minnesota Twins beat them in the division this year (This, on the other hand, does need to be answered this week)?

  • Who is the person Mark/Demetri arrested and what exactly did they want her for? I picked up it had something to do with terrorism/dirty bombs?

  • Is Red Panda relevant or is it just a shout out to the production team?

  • And finally, from my fiance....How stupid do they think we are??????????? During the replay on Friday they pointed out all the major clues (bullet, kangaroo, three stars, etc.) in the commercials just in case we didn't realize they wanted us to notice them. REALLY???? If you are going to promo this as the next LOST and seek out LOSTies, people were paying attention.

Four Hours Earlier ...No More Good Days 1.01

So here’s the story from A to Z, you want to get with me you better listen carefully…

See! I too can do drunken karaoke. So, here’s the deal. I wanted to type up my thoughts on each week’s episode of FlashFoward. I will not read any of the spoilers. So realize, if you have a burning desire to tell me how I’m so clearly wrong because of the producers promising x, y, and z are not true, or we know such and such will be in next weeks episode, I will have no idea what you are talking about. If you point out how wrong I am because of something we have already seen in the show and I clearly missed it due to my being an idiot….I will have no idea what you are talking about (mmm…denial…gurgle gurgle gurgle). My name is based on the two cranky, sarcastic, cynical puppets from the balcony in The Muppet Show. This will largely be the nature of my commentary when I go off on tangents.

First off, I have read some of the boards on SpoilerTV forums and read the FF and LOST connections. I’ll point out a few of the obvious this week, and then move on. I don’t want to dwell on these forever because I want to view FF as an entity on its own. If you want every little reference of possible connection, there are much smarter people than me posting. Check them out, it really is interesting.

I hate you too…

Close up on eye, chaos, destruction, WTF….blah, blah, blah. Just like LOST, but not as cool as LOST. There will be no next LOST, in my opinion, just like there will be no next Michael Jordan (for my fellow Americans) or PelĂ© (for my fellow global citizens). There is simply the first and only Jordan/Pele/Jim Henson. I hope this is the first FlashFoward, if that makes sense. Moving on.

I particularly enjoyed the morning scene with Mark and Olivia. The biting sarcasm and dead pan delivery was great. Yes, Mark looks like Richard Alpert, and Olivia looks oddly like Penny. Casting is tough with limited actors in Hawaii so I can understand…oh, sorry. This is FlashFoward.

Studying...really Nicole? So that’s what they call it these days. I really hope that nothing ever happens between Nicole (the babysitter) and Mark (FBI badass) in a sexual way. I think it would be a cheap storyline, which is a trap so many shows fall into in the second season. Dating the nanny is not cool Mr. (Insert any major male celebrity here).

Bryce is an interesting character for me. His opening sequence could have been over dramatic really easily. The editor/director found a good balance. The images cut between his walking and pulling out the gun were contrasted with symbols of freedom, eternity, and rebirth. I think the surfers represent to total freedom and joy, as they ride the waves. The ocean is huge and stretches to the horizon, minimizing his existence and the choice of death…or life. Astounding beauty surrounds him, yet he is contemplating a permanent escape from this world. I think that the water around him also serves as a symbol of rebirth as he awakens from the flash forward. Side note: If they were out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, shouldn’t the balloons been higher up when he awoke?

We will come between the hours of 8am and 8pm on Thursday…when it is convenient…for us.

Part of my job in the real world is drug counseling with parolees, so I was all about Aaron,…and then he has to go and be an electric repairman. (
I’m sure he and any repair woman/man who reads this is among the good ones who work hard and show up on time. Seriously though, you cannot give a 2 hour period instead of 12 hours?!?) He is the basis of one of my major theories. I’ll get into explanations as to why I believe this in future, but that is a whole post in and of it self. I genuinely believe that 99% of everyone will be doing exactly what he or she saw in the flash. However, the circumstances that land them there will not be at all what they expect. I think that there will be a few characters that truly change/escape their "fate" (for lack of better word). As of right now, I’m thinking something similar to the ending of Minority Report. I’ll put a hold on this thought until I get some more evidence.

Did Aaron only find is daughter because of the vision, or would he have ended up there anyway?

This is going to be the fundamental question for at least the first season. You can insert any name instead of Aaron plus their flash, but that is the question. And unfortunately…it is from LOST season 5. The quicker they move on and focus onto the questions, who/what did this, how, and why, the better. That is how the show becomes different from LOST and not a cheap rip off.
Riveted, fascinated…Odds are against you.

Screw the flash forward, the FBI caused more damage in 15 seconds of the car chase than the flash. I found the connections between the early part of the day and the flash forwards…well riveting and fascinating. Mark was at an AA meeting and working on an international case. He sees himself working on the flash and drinking. Aaron was talking about his daughter and sees her alive. Olivia worries about all these other men while scrubbing up, sees herself with another man. Bryce contemplates suicide and sees himself happy. Demetri worries about the future and being seen by everyone dancing and sees nothing.

This is what I believe is important. Obviously April 29, 2010 10:00 pm is a Thursday works nicely for a season finale. I believe that we will reach that date within this season. After the chaos, Mark and Demetri arrest the unknown woman. Behind them on the bus is a sign for Red Panda and the sign says something about "Better Tomorrow." I think this is a huge clue. It is also on the Mosaic wall in Mark’s flash. I think the unknown woman will be important for a few episodes but not in the long term. The bit about the storm and horses will only serve as a heads up to one of the main characters later in the series when they see that occurring. I’m thinking Demetri.

I’m also glad post flash that Mark can run really hard for about 5 seconds before being exhausted and needs to tip toe through water next to a downed electric pole….Honestly, who does that?!? HELLO!!! There are dead bodies in the water! Next AA meeting Aaron needs to review electrical safety with Mark. Obviously Charlie (Mark and Olivia’s daughter and shout out to LOST, along with the Oceanic airline, and kangaroo) is important. No more happy days? I think it is due to some impending good vs. evil fight, people not liking their future and committing suicide, people trying to use the flash for profit (I saw Apple stock up 32%, and I’m copywriting the idea for the latest iPod and will make millions), and lastly because whatever caused this it was not an attempt to reach some greater good. I think the tone was too ominous for this to be someone’s attempt to save the world.

I think the two helicopters flying overhead will be explained in the next few episodes. It will likely be the Secretary of State, General whoever, or Steve Jobs….Damn it, he owns everything. I think the kangaroo is not entirely a LOST reference, but rather important because of something to do with the zoo. I think it was interesting that they emphasized 14 times by my account that it was humans who flashed. What happened to the animals? I’m not going into the rest Mark’s flash (like the Blue hand) or the fact that Olivia’s patient’s dad is the man she ends up with. I’m not discussing the video of the man/woman at the baseball game. There is just too little to go on. I’m sure these will be the focus of future episodes.

I hope you enjoyed. This is really my first crack at something like this. Final thoughts from my name sakes…

Statler: You know, the older I get, the more I appreciate good music.
Waldorf: Yeah? What's that got to do with what we just heard?
Statler: Nothing, just thought I'd mention it.

(i.e. FF needs to work on the musical score)
